Res( )nate.is is a streaming platform I first read about here on Steemit, and are pioneering a concept they're calling # streamtoown which basically breaks down in a couple of different ways for both fans and for artists, alike.
For Fans:
Rather than dealing with ads and/or paying a pesky monthly subscription rate, each Resonate listener is offered the option to in essence, purchase a share in Resonate for $5.00 (hence the co-op concept).
You only pay for what you listen to...and you only pay full price for what you love to listen to, and the artists you're listening to get direct "fair trade" monetary credit for your listens.
For Musicians:
The idea of Fair Trade Music based on the Blockchain is a pretty cool concept to me in general. Steemit was providing what I felt was fair trade content for a while, but changing tides have left me wondering what else lies on the horizon.
Musicians can earn their member share by generating content the listeners on the site enjoy. Compared to Spotify or other major music streaming services, the payouts are much clearer and seems to be the potential to provide much more actual literal reward per stream, without having to hit a huge threshold first.
Fair Trade Music:
Streaming based on the blockchain could revolutionize everything. There are so many shady deals that happen within the larger world of the music industry, that placing it all open sourced for everyone to see could really clean up the market.
New Frontier:
There are only around 1K musicians on the platform right now, so it's definitely still in its burgeoning phases. I'm excited for what could come of the platform, and hope that other musicians out there can benefit from it as well.
I posted a few tracks over the course of the last couple of days and without much advertising have already had quite a few plays, which is honestly much more than I expected.
