The Pakistani Government had announced a 10 billion tree plantation campaign to combat global warming and climate change in the region, as well as the high amount of pollutants in the air. Pakistan is a tropical region and an agricultural country rain is an integral part in our economy but for a few years it has just not rained in the region to the fullest. My own city Karachi hasn't had a proper rain shower in 2018 although the monsoon season has passed. This climate change has caused severe drought in some rural areas and fertile land has become barren because of this.
A greener and cleaner Pakistan is our Prime minister's vision. On the 2nd of September the first phase of the campaign started and 1.5 million plants were planted throughout the country. Even citizens could take these plants from a distribution center and plant them in the neighborhood. My friends and I were planning to plant trees across the street for shade while walking and a better environment. When we heard of this we rushed to the center and took the plants that were being distributed. There were 9 species of tree that would grow fast and easily. The process was that 5 plants were given to each citizen with a valid identity card. There were many people from across the city that had reached the place to collect them.
I felt honored to be part of this historical campaign and as a citizen to do my responsible work and help the government achieve their goal. we were five friends and so we collected 25 plants. Our plan is to plant them in a sequence which would make the street green and the tree shadows will cover the passers that are walking through it. Hope one day I'll upload a photo of the street green and clean along with the whole of Pakistan.
