The Deadman is finally resting in peace.http://news.nationalpost.com/arts/the-undertaker-retires-at-wrestlemaniaThe Undertaker signalled his retirement from the ring at last night’s Wrestlemania 33, the pro-wrestling version of the Super Bowl.
The legendary performer, 52, born Mark Calaway, started wrestling with World Wrestling Entertainment (then the World Wrestling Federation) in 1990 when Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior still ruled the promotion, and then spent almost 27 years wrestling there. Over that time he performed at 25 Wrestlemanias (missing only two due to injury) and amassed an impressive 23-2 record, being undefeated at the show of shows until he lost to Brock Lesnar in 2014.
Aside from perhaps John Cena, who is a part-time host of The Today Show and occasional movie-star, The Undertaker was the best known figure who still semi-regularly performed for WWE.
“I really think you have to put him at the top of the heap,” Steve “Stone Cold” Austin said in an interview about The Undertaker on the WWE Network. “To last this long, to go through the periods of reinventing himself, to always stay fresh, to have quality matches, to take care of that character, just speaks volumes to work ethic.”
