World biggest - Computer

It has a computing power of 200 petaflops. Or in other words:

200,000,000,000,000,000,000 calculations per second.

The most powerful supercomputer in the world right now is IBM's Summit, held at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee, USA.

IBM's Summit computer measures 520 square meters and weighs more than 340 tons. As with many other supercomputers, it is built around thousands of servers connected.

  • It is also what is called a cluster computer. So you connect a lot of computers with a fast network, and then you install some software so that it looks like a big machine.

The many servers in the Summit supercomputer contain graphics cards and processors designed specifically for tasks with artificial intelligence.

  • The 200 petaflops are a huge number. These are numbers that you reach because the computer is built around certain graphics cards, which can do a huge number of calculations at a time.

Like many other supercomputers, Summit is used for various research projects, primarily with artificial intelligence.
