It's a-me, @steemmatt!
Here's my drum cover of Super Mario Brothers for Open Mic Week 67. FYI, there's a light intro for 18 seconds before the full song starts. I tried to upload it on dtube several times, but it wouldn't work. Ironically, I saw that openmic isn't accepting dtube entries anymore, so it was a blessing in disguise.
I chose this song to try to connect with more people, since drums alone don't seem to be nearly as popular as guitar/keys with vocals. While there's a balance to strike, I figure that a smarter song choice can help me gain some ground or views.
Aside from 30 minutes of rushed messing around last week, I've never actually played this song before today. I spent a few hours on the set this afternoon coming up with whatever felt appropriate for the music without overpowering it. My neighbors were in the way for a few days, so my prep was listening to the song beforehand to visualize what'd I play to hit the ground running when I had my chance to jam. I may dabble more in video game theme songs since they often don't have acoustic drums, and evoke good memories. Hopefully this can hang with all of the talented vocalists and musicians. Fingers crossed.
I was originally going to cover The Legend Of Zelda's main theme song, but thought this would be more fun for now. (dibs - openmic crew!!)
In hindsight, I should've put some question marks on the exposed bricks in my apartment...
Headphones or speakers with good bass recommended to hear everything properly. I tried to balance out the levels on the module, so hopefully it sounds better than before.
Lastly, It might not look like it since I'm so focused when playing, but I put a hell of a lot of effort and thought into my drum videos when I learn these songs from scratch, and rush to get a solid enough track to submit in small windows when both neighbors are gone. Having to finish before they're back ruins some of the fun while playing, and adds pressure to play conservatively to secure a submission.
Let's-a go! Enjoy.
Follow me for more drum videos on dtube once I figure out how to upload smoothly. Troubleshooting advice is welcome.
