Heya Steemers! This is my entry for Open Mic Week 52.
Congratulations and happy 1st Birthday Steemit Open Mic!
This is a song I co-wrote with a very good friend of mine Benjamin West. Ben and I were housemates and bandmates at the time. Most weeks included two jams with Anti Social Commentary out in the bungalow (aptly named ASC HQ) a trip with either ASC or just Ben and I to the Open Mic at our favourite local pub, the Golden Vine, possibly a gig or two and many nights of solving the worlds problems - which generally involved whiskey and port royal tobacco on our front porch.
I'm not sure how either of us found the time to write but we were both rather prolific back then, perhaps we just had more experiences and heartaches to write about?
I still clearly remember writing and refining this song with Benjamin in the lounge over a few nights and to this day it's a song I'm very proud to have played a part in writing. The story is largely about ben's recovery from a motor vehicle accident and the rehab thereafter.
Lyrics:
It’s so cold outside
That’s what you’ve been told
So it seems the fear is too much to bear
Can’t take a step
You’re glittering, frozen, so beautiful, it seems like the morning’s come to break the day anew. It’s not for you.
I watch you sit still in your nest
I wish I could thaw you with my breath
Warming winds beneath your wings
Spreading wide
You’re glittering, frozen, so beautiful, it seems like the morning’s come to break the day anew. It’s not for you.
It’s not for you, or so you’re told
It’s not for you, or so you’ve felt
But it’s for you so take a grip
But it’s for you, it’s for you, it’s for you
It’s for you (x4)
So grip tight, make it yours, and fly
Co-written by Trevor Petrie (@trevorpetrie) and Benjamin West.
