I love fooling around with delay. It sets a rhythm for you and it's so easy to get locked into it, it can be hypnotic. That's how this song came about, messing with an old acoustic amp I had one last time before I got rid of it. Laid down the groundwork with one track and then came back with another locked in on top of it. Some weird synth noises in addition and the result is what you hear.
In my mind, the title was a vague reference to Jesus. Unless I have my facts all wrong, a daeva was a "demon of light" in the old Zoroastrian religion of Persia. Perhaps the fabled journey of the 3 wise men from the East (following an azimuth, or a trajectory towards a star) was actually one of foreboding and wariness. What powers might this rumored new deity possess? Were they investigating a threat to their established order? Would their quest end in a child in swaddling clothes or a beast that could shoot lightning from its claws? Who were they to say. The birth of this "Jesus" did coincide in the end with the decline of one religion and the birth of a brand-new one...
