First off, families are not democracies. Child judgement is immature and lacking in just about everything.

If your not making the decisions, or letting kids push you around, then your depriving your child of your leadership.

It's time for a new government in your childrens lives. Your government. This could not be simpler. You have the final vote on everything, and that's it.

So, how do we setup a benevolent dictatorship with your family?

Consider the following tips:

You need to take into account the ages of each child separately.

Each child will have different maturity levels, as teenagers are less reasonable than 6-8 year olds, so common sense must prevail here. If any kind of democracy is going on, try to turn it around back to a dictatorship. Try not to keep up with what other people are doing with their children either - that is none of your business if they choose to have higher or lower standards than yourself with their children.

Learn to take the heat.

No, we don't want to win Parent of The Year, so lets write that one off straight away. But, we do want them to have our respect as well as that of other parents that might be around.

Raising kids is no walk in the park, and it can be trying and downright hellish. But we all know what is right and wrong in our hearts, so we must always follow our inner instincts. If we work for the child's best interests, it will pay off in the longer term.

Raising kids is a marathon not a sprint, so we have 18 years to get it right, so don't sweat the small stuff.

Happy dictatorship parenting!
