Hey there HIVE, for those who haven't read me before, I'm currently building a small forest shelter in the early stages. It will eventually be a house, but right now it's basically a big tent made of willow and recycled plastic, as well as geotextile leftovers.

I want to make clear, I'm not doing this looking to become a hermit, nor do I look up to the hermit lifestyle. I like silence and being alone, but I also enjoy people, friends, family, children, and company in general. However, this is not a post to whine about my loneliness, I'm just looking for perspectives on the lack of support I feel in this path.

What I'm really looking after is to build a community based on the principles of permaculture and veganism. Ok, maybe that's not too crazy, but it seems for most people the part of starting from scratch is just unimaginable. Right now I have no electricity to offer (I blog from my mother's house), nor a water system as I catch mine from the stream with a bucket.

My intention is to live without collaborating with the silent violence of modern life. By that I mean the destruction of forests to clear areas for buildings, changing soil for pavement, using clean water to flush our wastes in bathrooms, contaminating ways to produce massive and unnecessary amounts of energy, and so on. You get the idea.
Quiero vivir de una forma que no esté colaborando con la violencia silenciosa de la vida moderna. Con eso me refiero a la destrucción de bosques para despejar áreas para construir edificios, cambiar el suelo por pavimento, usar agua limpia para eliminar nuestros desechos en los baños, contaminar las formas de producir cantidades masivas e innecesarias de energía, etc. Entiendes la idea.
Now, when I hop into social media, such as Facebook, it's just filled with memes about taking care of the Earth, the rivers, the ecosystems, etc. Many say that they would love to go away from civilization to live in the wilderness, in harmony with Nature. But when they are offered this chance they don't seem quite interested and talk about doing it when they can buy their own piece of land.
Ahora, cuando entro en las redes sociales, como Facebook, están llenas de memes sobre el cuidado de la Tierra, los ríos, los ecosistemas, etc. Muchos dicen que les encantaría irse de la civilización para vivir en la Naturaleza en armonía con ella. Pero cuando se les ofrece esta oportunidad, no parecen muy interesados y hablan de hacerlo cuando puedan comprar su propio terreno.
I understand people want to feel safety that the time and money invested on any project will give them some kind of warrant for their stay in the long term. So, what I offer is that as soon as there is a consolidated group we can pass the ownership of the terrain to a Foundation so that I'm no longer with the power in my hands to decide the fate of what has been done at my free will.
Entiendo que la gente quiere sentirse segura de que el tiempo y el dinero invertido en cualquier proyecto les dará algún tipo de garantía para su estadía a largo plazo. Entonces, lo que ofrezco es que en cuanto haya un grupo consolidado podemos pasar la propiedad del terreno a una Fundación para que ya no tenga el poder en mis manos para decidir el destino de lo que se ha hecho en conjunto a mi libre voluntad.
Then I get the argument that this piece of land is too small. It's 1.5 hectares, which in my opinion is enough space for up to 3, even 4 families. Plus, if you manage to work all that space wisely, I'm sure more room will open up as you can talk with neighbors to share some patch for crops and the such. You can also start generating some income to buy new lands. It's all about the will to make things work.
Entonces me argumentan de que este terreno es demasiado pequeño. Son 1,5 hectáreas, que en mi opinión es espacio suficiente para hasta 3, incluso 4 familias. Además, si se logra trabajar todo ese espacio sabiamente, estoy seguro de que se abrirán más espacios ya que puede hablar con los vecinos para compartir espacio para cultivos y cosas así. También puede comenzar a generar algunos ingresos para comprar nuevas tierras. Se trata de la voluntad de hacer que las cosas funcionen.
Personally, I'm really optimistic about what you can do with a small piece of land. I've seen people do more in small city yards than others that live in the countryside. It's about creativity and understanding the laws of abundance. You receive what you give. Feed the soil and it shall give you much. Observe and see how you can benefit without much intervention.
Personalmente, soy muy optimista sobre lo que se puede hacer con un pequeño terreno. He visto a gente hacer más en los patios de las ciudades pequeñas que a las personas que viven en el campo. Se trata de creatividad y comprensión de las leyes de la abundancia. Recibes lo que das. Alimenta la tierra y te dará mucho. Observa y ve cómo puedes beneficiarte sin mucha intervención.
