Ivanka Trump's Journey Into Nietzsche ... [Yes, You Read That Right!]

What philosophy is not

Ivanka Trump's recent attempt at philosophy with "Women Who Work" includes quotations from the likes of Nietzsche, Socrate and Aristotle, and all of this smells of bad platitudes in wise hands.

Corporate business leaders are prone to the same kind of behaviour. I remember my old CEO boss at Nortel who used to dress up memos with quotes from Wittgenstein. Boring! I don't think he even knew where he was born, let alone which century he lived in? He strutted the corporate floors delivering these lines like an A-Level philosophy student. It used to grind my gears as he trotted out his scripted lines.

What philosophy really is

Ivanka and CEOs could do a lot to learn that philosophy has nothing to do with quotations, and everything to do with reasoning and modes of thinking.

One quote does not do a good job of making a philosopher or instilling wisdom in an individual. It is the job of philosophers to attack these brainless quotes so that people don't get the wrong ideas about philosophy.

Philosophers don't go out and do things like Ivanka, but if they step back then people like her will indeed fill the vacuum, and they won't do it well. My final advice to you: Please don't buy her book!
