[PHOTO] Taking pictures through dirty train windows #9

Long-time followers of my blog (well, I'm not even 2 months on Steemit yet, so what is a long time?) know of these series already. Today I found this picture and decided to edit it for the series.

Impatience makes imperfect

Here's the thing: I'm often impatient while traveling. I know what I can create from looking around and creating a mental image of the end result. And since the built-in camera on my phone is already capable of creating amazing end result since there are quite decent editing apps I sometimes choose to create a picture 'quickly' on the phone.

I take the picture on the train, edit on the train, and before the train ride is over I've posted it on Instagram. (Well, I used to. Haven't posted on Instagram since opening an account on Steemit ;-))

Use your gear

But when I realize what capabilities my 'real' camera have and that I could do way better. Although I'm not saying the camera is what makes the picture, it does start there. Just that bit more detail, just that bit more light (because of a better lens), just that RAW file you can fully develop in (in my case) Lightroom.

This picture is an example of that. While many of the pictures in these series have been taken on my iPhone 6, this one was taken on my trusted and very capable Olympus OMD camera.

During editing in Lightroom the picture came to life. I count four layers in this picture:

  • The reflection of light and chairs from inside the train on the inside of the window
  • The drops of rain from outside the train on the outside of the window
  • The views on the landscape of the window through which I'm taking the photo (trees, hills)
  • The reflections of the windows and the landscapes you can see through those windows of the opposite side of the train in the windows through which I take the picture

Can you see all the layers? :-) What's the most 'layered' picture you created yourself?

(And don't get me wrong! Some of my favourite pictures have been shot with an iPhone. After all: it's the photographer and not the camera that makes a picture!)
