What a beautiful sunset for the second day in a row here in southeastern North Carolina! Tonight, we headed for the Oak Island Pier which sustained heavy damage during Hurricane Matthew (see the pier collapse video below).
There were several fisherman out at the end of the pier (i.e. the new shorter, post-Matthew end) catching a steady stream of whiting. The fish weren't all that big, but one of the fisherman claimed that whiting were good eats.
Why is it so hard to remember that whenever you decide to bail on a sunset, you should really just stay another 5 or 10 minutes? I know that @runrudy has mastered this lesson!
After my wife and I paid a buck each to walk out onto the pier, this evening's sunset seemed like it would dissappoint after the incredible spectacle we witnessed last night in Southport, NC. There were some nice pastel colors, but nothing to take your breath away.
It wasn't until we were back at the car that we looked up to see a cotton candy wonderland in the sky. We quickly walked back to the beach beneath the pier to capture some of the awesomeness.
