My Tiny Planets #32: Newgrange, Ireland

It's about time!! While I already posted two tiny planets of my walk to Newgrange (#11 & #29), I haven't shown you the actual monument yet. So here we go! And as a bonus, I am in this shot too ;)

I told you earlier that this prehistoric monumental tomb is older than the pyramids and Stonehenge (it's over 5000 years old), which is hard to believe when you stand in front of it. The quartz & granite cobblestones in the outer wall are so well lined up, it almost looks like a modern building. Fair to say that it hasn't always looked this way and massive restoration has been going on to make it look like this.

When you stand inside, it is clear that this is very old. It made me sad to see so much carved graffiti inside, but that is from the time before they turned it into a protected monument. Now, nobody can enter the tomb without a guide and you are not allowed to take photographs inside. It seems to be working because I wasn't able to find recent carvings.
