It is located deep in the thickness of the mountain, so it is completely dark inside. The darkness is dispersed only by the light of the flashlights of rare guests who have gone down to wander through the abandoned rooms and tunnels. Every time I look at this photo, it seems to me that these are two shots pasted together — but no, it's just two tunnels meeting.
This place is called Object 221 (and also known as The Hole or Alsu-2), one of the ghosts of the Cold War. Here they were going to place a reserve command post of the Black Sea Fleet of the USSR in the Crimea. It was designed for autonomous operation and had to withstand a direct hit from a nuclear warhead, but it was never put into operation. For many years, Object 221 has been abandoned, and looters have taken out everything valuable from it, but lovers of abandoned places and this special atmosphere do not stop going there.
This post is my entry to the Qurator's Photo Quest | Abandoned Places.
It's better to watch the photo in high resolution.
