Wisdom and Nonsense

“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”
- James 3:17-18

No man is an island.

This should be especially true of Christians; but do we spend time with our brothers and value their understanding of scripture?

Paul, Jesus' Ambassador to the Nations, let us know that we make up Christ's body. Each of us is a member who dare not discount or dismiss any other member of the body.

Open-minded biblical conversations with our brothers, exchanging insights with one another, and honoring what we each have learned over the years can help bring us all closer to truth.

Only in our gathering as the ἐκκλησίᾳ (ecclesia)—God's assembly—can we piece together a comprehensive systematic theology. No one of us holds all the pieces of that puzzle.

Worse yet, many of the pieces we hold simply will not fit—no matter how hard we try to jam them in where we think they ought to go. Could they be pieces from a completely different puzzle?

Perhaps it's time we gather together and find out who among us may hold the pieces we're missing...

~Wisdom and Nonsense~

A Poem by Duncan Cary Palmer

"I've figured it out;
So why should I care?"

Of wisdom and nonsense
We each flaunt our share.

Our IQ has failed us;
Not many are wise,
Nor mighty, or noble,
(Save in our own eyes).

"Fools for Christ's sake,"
Apropos epithet.
We imagine as gospel
Truth not settled yet.

Iron strikes iron,
That's how we get sharp.
Let us speak face to face
And step out of the dark.

Traditions, confessions,
and creeds are all flawed.
Shall we open the scriptures
and learn from our God?
