Well, after 5 versions (3 in prose and 2 in verse), I’m not sure if this is going to be scary… but it does tell a story (kind of) and then again, Poe was the master of dark stuff, and not all of his writing were “scary”… not like I’m anything like him, but here we go:
The Altar of Desolating Passions
Amidst the shadows and fungus,
between deep crevices of crooked trees,
it may be followed the path
of untold need and dark desires.
Twilight voices say
only penitent souls
heed the call
of edge and void
Because the kingdom of fallen leaves
hides that which cannot be told
and nurtures a fragrance
of sanguine adoration
Now, if you dare to step into
unhallowed trails
pay attention to the raven’s song
and follow
Amidst the shadows and fungus,
a heart is quiet and another beats louder
between deep crevices of crooked trees,
how brief can be the time of love and care?
Soft twilight whispers
“forevermore, forevermore”
and when the stone steps are seen
her silence speaks a thousand words
Cold stone, rope and blade
they sing adoration
and eternity announces itself
with a shard of love piercing trough
The kingdom of fallen leaves
houses the altar of edge and void
where the raven sings her words:
“forevermore, forevermore”.
