Pearlescent Poems # 6: Brass Belly Of The Beast (Original Poem)

We didn't see it prowling from the darkened, murky depths
We couldn't feel the vibrations from its raspy, bellowing breaths
The rippling water surrounding us seemed ordinary with the currents
Until it all stopped in quiet stillness, and weren't again recurrent

We waited in silence, a little bit frightened, hands clinging to the boat sides
The cold steel wind gusts, and its fin thrusts sent shivers toward the coastlines
We were far from shore, how we ignored the dangers now in store
A blasting shock, the boat it knocked, then seeping water poured

We looked around, stood up again, the center hull was torn
A gash in leg, a splintered knee, the pain had now been born
Panic arose, some eyes had closed, others had froze in fear
One man had jumped, he was quite plump, it came he disappeared

Half-filled the boat, up to our thighs, two men each held a spear
I braced myself, the water swelled, black scales had scraped the rear
A swooping sound, a crashing down, a gaping mouth of knives
A crimson tongue, through throat we swum, in its brass belly alive

Thank you for reading this poem in its entirety. I hope enjoyed the ride. I wrote this today to commemorate a new book I wrote that I shall be releasing in future posts called They Didn't See It Beneath Them This small short story book is relative to this poem, but I won't give away the plot. You'll just have to read it and explore the unknown waters yourself.

Next post coming soon.
