Poker Tip Man Armen-"Seeing the Turn"

Have you ever flopped a baby flush or flopped a set with a flush on the board and lost on the river? I have, many times. Have you ever gone all-in with top pair, top kicker and gotten crushed by a flush draw? What do you do to avoid losing big with a great hand on the flop?

Most player blow-up the pot when they hit big on the flop, only to lose to a drawing hand. What I have learned to do is take it slow on the flop and go big on the turn. For example, let's say you flopped a baby flush with three players in the hand. What do you do? I Normally bet out a small amount just to build the pot and see a turn. You give yourself a chance to get away from a hand if the turn is a wet card without investing too much and committing yourself to the hand. If the turn is a blank card then I go big to get the drawing hands to fold or have to pay-up to see the river. It's a lot harder for drawing hands to call you with just one card coming.

Pot control is vital when you have a vulnerable hand on the flop. Take it slow on the flop and go big on the turn. Poker is a game of patience and self control, don't committee yourself to a hand that is vulnerable.
