It is my second article from series, which is to bring to light to you the nature of random distribution in real life and how it affect us.
This time I have something practical - shuffling cards that we need for many interesting games - whether you play poker professionally, have fun sometimes in the casino or just play with your friends at home some RPG or other popular games.
The worst way to shuffle cards
- unfortunately it is the most popular way to do it in my country (Poland)! I suppose yours too. This is simple shuffling by pushing the cards in one hand over the other hand, when the card batches just fall into the previous ones.
- to make perfect randomness this way you have to do it 10,000 times !!!! (source at the end)
The simplest way to shuffle
- is the least known way in Poland, what's funny it's the best! You just need to put cards on the table and mix them with hands for several seconds. For better randomness do it as wide as you can (the bigger the table the better). It is Casino's croupiers manadatory way to mix cards before they use next method.
The most famous way to shuffle cards
- is a good random way after about a repeat of this process 7 and half times (sic!) :) Riffle shuffle consists of picking up two same sized batches of cards on the table with your thumbs, and merging/mixing back into one pile in a quick motion giving the sound of shooting a rifle (my thought association although I do not know if this is a proper translation)
NEVER use the first method.
MY WAY is a short chaotic second method of mixing, followed by 3 times riffle shuffle!
