I've been researching the use of QR codes instead of robohash for SteemFace , and this is my current favourite design. Much nicer I think..

When somebody verifies the system could generate 2 different QR codes:
1) Links to a verification page within steemface - This would show a profile page confirming their verification status, linking to both steemit and facebook accounts as well as their recent posts (with fb sharing tools).

2) Links to their steemit.com profile directly.

Does anyone have any experience with custom qr generation ? This particular qr was generated via unitag (https://www.unitag.io/qrcode) and the text overlay added in gimp, but that obviously wont work live.. Scan accuracy suffers once you add in a logo, but built-in qr code redundancy saves the day. Here is the image I used and the colours are 3b5998 and 4BA2F2 if you want to recreate it with your own link :)

My options for QR generation seem to be:

1) I could purchase one of the crazy overpriced api plans with one of the many qr customisation companies I see via google. This market seems greedy and in need of disruption tbh, charging heaps of money for a set quota of QR codes per month with limited design options. A lot of the API's I found are specialised towards once-off or rare generation for a specific destination URL , not constant regeneration for freeform urls with complex design mods.

2) Dive in the deep end again and spend the same funds on server power to do it all locally. Learn how to code everything required, and cram it into steemface.

3) Convince someone else there is value in the general idea of steem-specific custom QR code generation as a service and then use their service for steemface ;)

As steemit grows and more celebrities and businesses start promoting their content on here we're going to see more real-world marketing. I think custom qr could be a very slick tool for real world promotional materials.

What do you think Steemit ?

Worth the effort ? Neat idea ? Or do I just use robohash ?

Better yet, do any devs with a gift for aesthetics like @blueorgy feel like taking on another project ?
