More than once I stated: All bad things brings forward good things! While the whole world is struggling with COVID19 (the bad) I was so happy to see an episode of "Electronic Beats TV: Blind Test" passing in my Facebook feed this morning (the good). One of the artists I follow is Benny Rodriques (aka ROD, his artist name for his techno work). A truly nice guy, very active on social media, always trying new things, with a great positive attitude and always available for a talk when paths crosses. He was one of the first electronic artists streaming live for hours and hours a day from his home studio when the lockdown became a fact in our little country the Netherlands. At some point in time he had to stop, due to his neighbours complaining about all the noise. Fortunately he could make a deal with them, so he could continue again, though not in the middle of the night anymore :)

This morning I saw his post (source) in which he shared his participation in this Blind Test and his wish since day one of this series to be requested. He wrote:
few months ago i saw this online game where (well known) dj's have to guess the titles of old records. being the obsessive music nerd (especially when it comes to 90' techno) that i am, i secretly hoped Telekom Electronic Beats Blind Test would ask me as well, which they did (alongside MARCEL DETTMANN, FJAAK, DJ Hyperactive, Shinedoe & Maral Salmassi) and here it is, so much nostalgic culture fun this was.
I simply had to watch this video! Not that I know anything about who made what track; But because I'm a huge fan of techno since I discovered this style of music back in early 90s. Ghee... almost 3 decades ago already! Time flies when you having fun :)
Six artists in this Blind Test of which at least three I've listened to their work and sets a whole bunch of times in clubs and on festivals. Some even on small and cosy illegal in- and outdoor parties (well: we can call them friends and family rave's).
Many artists are out of work for months, and some to more of them are getting creative. Like the other day when Steve Rachmad decided to join Speedy J in a live streaming event showing the world what he can do when playing live. First time ever for him to play a set using hardware only! And I can assure you, something his friends wanted to see happening for years already (interested in this story? my post about this (here)). The lockdown made this happen! Thank you Miss Drama COVID!
Another reason why I watched this video, is the fact that whenever I see something passing by, created by this team, it's always something interesting. Fun fact: Electronic Beats is a team run by Deutsche Telecom (well, T-Mobile to be exact).
Can you imagine?
Though Telecom companies seem to be modern and dynamic, the fact is totally the opposite. Having spend more than 20 years of my work life in Telecoms, I've experienced first hand how traditional these companies are. Irrespective of the brand being T-Mobile, Vodafone, Orange (man, they have some great TV commercials), Telefonica, AT&T, or even the Dutch KPN.
Therefore I'm super happy to see some of these companies did establish and continue to fund side projects bringing real value outside their comfort zone and business segment. Like Electronic Beats (click for their youtube channel): They constantly succeed in surprising me in a positive way: Great inside news and running Innovative and Catchy projects, like this Blind Test series.
Spoiler alert
