Ulog 33: Beagle Timelapse

Beagle 1.jpg

Good evening!

As promised, I've put together a time lapse video of my most recent drawing commission- this cute little beagle. It's a present for her mum, so we'll just have to hope she's not here on Steemit!

Anyway, sad to say, I didn't get any process photos taken during this, as my phone was tied up in taking the time lapse, and that is all I've got to take photos at present.

Tips:

I thought I'd add a couple of useful tools and tips to get you started with your pencil work...

  1. See in the video, I'm resting my hand at all times on a piece of tracing paper which is laid over the drawing? That's for two reasons. Firstly, it stops the natural oils in my hands from transferring onto the paper, as this stops the pencil 'sticking' in the same way to the surface. As I work so randomly, jumping here and there, it also stops me from smudging what I've already got down on paper. I now use tracing paper instead of a piece of cartridge for this so that the drawing values are still visible as I work.

  2. As I mentioned in point 1 - my drawing process is completely random. Don't get swayed by YoTube videos that you have to do it one way or another. Some work methodically, others like me hop all over the place!

  3. Invest in a Tombow Mono Eraser. This is a fine pencil eraser in the form of a pen- with the eraser as the nib! This is what allows me to add in fine highlights such as stray white hairs and whiskers.

  4. Be careful wearing jewellery, especially bracelets, when working - this can bruise the paper if you're not careful.

  5. When it comes to getting rid of eraser bits from your drawing- do not blow them off! It's too easy to spit on the paper, and if you've eaten anything with any colour in it, this can be a disaster. Use a large, soft paintbrush which you keep just for this job.

  6. Paper stumps are the white things you see me use occasionally. These are great for adding a smooth tone of pencil smudge over an area or smoothing out marks which may be a bit too strong. Get a couple of different sizes and have a play!

I really hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know what you think!
