Joseph Cheshire Cotten, Jr. was born on May 15, 1905, in Petersburg, Virginia, to Sally Whitworth (Willson) and Joseph Cheshire Cotten, Sr. He hailed from a well-to-do Southern family and was the eldest of three sons. Early Life and Career

Joseph Cheshire Cotten, Jr. was born on May 15, 1905, in Petersburg, Virginia, to parents Sally Whitworth (Willson) and Joseph Cheshire Cotten, Sr. He grew up in a well-to-do Southern family and was the eldest of three sons.
