LeoGlossary: State Banking Department

The overseer in each state (in the US) for the state banks. It supervises all activities and affairs pertaining to the banks.

Entities that typically are under their regulatory authority:

  • state-chartered banks
  • credit unions
  • savings and loan associations
  • trust companies
  • money order companies.
  • money transmitters

The regulations will vary from state-to-state.
