Midnights is the tenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, released on October 21, 2022, via Republic Records. It experiments with several variations of pop such as chill-out, electropop, dream pop, and bedroom pop, characterized by the use of analog synthesizers, drum machines, subtle grooves, and hip hop/R&B rhythms.
The album explores topics such as anxiety, insecurity, self-criticism, self-awareness, insomnia, and self-confidence. According to Swift, it was inspired by five major topics: self-hatred, revenge fantasies, "wondering what might have been", falling in love, and "falling apart". Therefore, Midnight is considered a concept album.
Midnights was a commercial success and broke many records such as most single-day streams of an album on Spotify and best selling album of 2022.
It was also well received by critics, being regarded as Swift's most candid, confident, and frankest writing yet.
