ULOG 094 - Steem blockchain hardfork 20 week

What a week! On Tuesday 25th Sept. 2018 11:00 AM EDT, we switched to HF20.

That was 1 AM Australian Eastern Time, I went to bed early and set an alarm on to check if all was good and it was not. My witness server was all good but we encountered various issues including that negative RC (Resource Credit). Many of us have missed blocks due to the bugs. The consensus witnesses have decided to revert back to HF19 temporarily to reduce the impact. Then Steemit Inc released three patches and here we go again.

Before applying the patches, I managed to find a working RPC node to use in order to disable my witness before starting to replay the blockchain on the server. This has prevented me from missing blocks during the down time.

As witnesses are starting to come back up on blockchain version 0.20.3 things have started to settle down but another “issue” was happening. Everyone’s is starting with 0 RC and Voting Mana (the new concept that is replacing the former Vote Power), this has lead to most of us mortals being unable to post, comment, upvote or actually do anything on the blockchain. Only whales and orca had enough SP and thus enough RC to continue posting. Once again, this shows clearly that unless you are a whale or an orca, you are virtually nothing.

It had been some quite stressful few days and I feel totally drained. I had to go back home from work today as not feeling good but I think it’s just due to the weather change although all these extra work didn’t help with the health. My wife also has some health problem so all these are happening at a pretty bad time.

As a result of the switch to HF20, many projects are now stuck not being to do anything. @steemitboard for example, has announced it has been knocked out. I had to rewrite few of my scripts and the admin dashboard for @smartvote. @steemulant is not able to post stats post and @pocketjs can’t perform its task of confirming POCKET transactions due to insufficient RC although their manabar is at 100%.

I’m feeling too weak now to writing thing any meaningful analysis of what is going on so here are some witness updates regarding HF20:

Dtube Community SupportThis project by @evildido allows users to run their own IPFS node and pin videos in order to cache them for longer. Dtube has the tendency of deleting non-popular video after few days only. I helped Dockerizing the project for an easier deployment on almost any platform. I've also contributed by running two nodes, one in Australia and one in Canada to cache #teamaustralia and #teamnz videos.Dockerizing Dtube Community Support
DiscoSteem BotThis is a Discord/Steem bot project by @planetenamek. When I started Steemulant Bot for the Vietnamese community, I didn't know the existence of DiscoSteem Bot and wanted something written in NodeJS. I've ended up continuing my own project as it contains code and logic for personal use and for the Vietnamese community. But I've decided to share some useful features that can benefit the users of DiscoSteem Bot and will continue to add more functionalities as I go.Dockerizing DiscoSteem Bot

Skippy BotI've written this Discord bot for @teamaustralia, it has three main features: a level bot (like Tatsumaki but with Australian animal images), a chatter bot and a footer banner generator for both @teamaustralia, @teamnz and @steemphWitness Update 2018-07-30 - Team Australia's Skippy Bot
