ULOG #10 - A Random Path to a Very Steemian Dinner

A Random Path to a Very Steemian Dinner

Do you believe in destiny? Karmic connections? Fate? When the universe puts things in motion it’s amazing what happens when you let that energy flow!

A sequence of seemingly unrelated random events, brought Sheila and I together with friends that we just recently met in person but seem to have known forever.

The first of the randomness:

Camp sign.jpg

A year ago, Sheila and I came up to Lee, New Hampshire in our motorhome for a few months in the summer. Sheila and I met in New Hampshire and lived there for many years before moving to Florida, but until last summer had only been back for short visits. We really enjoyed the campground we stayed at and booked it for the season this year.

Then came this:

Not long after we left Lee, someone I had worked with when I had my day job, contacted me. I hadn’t spoken to Terrence in several years. He asked me what I knew about crypto currency. I told him not a thing! He knew that I had done some currency trading in the past and thought that I might be interested. He sent me a bunch of links with info and stuff. One of them was a crypto course on Udemy.

More randomness:

With my new interest in crypto, I signed up for a couple of Michael Suppo (@suppoman) crypto courses on Udemy. Maybe in one sentence in one of the courses he mentioned one way to obtain crypto besides mining was by blogging on Steemit. Sure! I thought, it must be blogging about crypto. I pretty much dismissed the idea at the time.

Meanwhile:

Terrence kept in touch. He was into the crypto thing. He bought a new computer just do mining. He was pretty excited. I was still in transit out west and didn’t have any reliable Internet, so mining wasn’t an option. But his excitement was contagious. Time for me to do more research. Let me check out this Steemit thingy.

Sheila was first:

Hey you can blog about any subject you want on Steemit! Not just crypto! Cool! Sheila was already blogging about her artwork elsewhere, so I suggested that she give it a try. Sheila got her @swedegis account and started posting. I got my account a little while later. I thought that it would be a good place to showcase my photography.

Chicken or the egg:

Out of the massive sea of bloggers and blog posts, along came #steemitbloggers and @traciyork. I’m not positive of the exact sequence of events, but this is the best I can remember.

Not long after joining Steemit, I posted this photo.

From the ocean of bloggers, @traciyork left a comment saying that she recognized where I took the photo because it was in her neighborhood!!!

She said:

Wait, what? The Coppal House Farm is maybe ten minutes away from where I live! HOWDY, NEIGHBOR! 😊

What???
After a bunch of back and forth commenting on each other’s posts, we established that we had a lot of similar interests and that although I wasn’t in her neighborhood then, I would be there in the summer and we should meet up.

Traci was already a member of #steemitbloggers and I'm pretty sure that it was the link on her post that I clicked to join the #steemitbloggers family! Luckily I made it in just until the wire, not long after @jaynie closed it to new applicants.

We met Jim first:

Traci usually refers to her husband Jim as “Hubby” in her posts. Jim even has a Steemit account @jamesyork! Traci’s hubby is a cable guy!
When we first came back New Hampshire this summer, I half-jokingly asked Traci, if Jim could hook us up. Traci, not only said sure, she put us in contact with Jim. He picked up our work order that day and stopped by on his way home. He had us all set up with TV and internet in no time. How awesome is that!

Breakfast at Sunny’s

A couple of days after we arrived we all met face to face at breakfast at Sunny’s. Our second meeting was also at Sunny’s.

Very Steemian dinner

Our latest get together was an awesome diner at Traci and Jim's.

We began the evening with a tour of Traci's magic forest.

The boulders peeking though the trees are Traci's personal Stonehenge and location for casting spells.

No trip to the forest would be complete without a dragonfly posing for a photo.

While Jim was outside grilling up our feast of steak, chicken and corn on the cob, the rest of us were in the kitchen enjoying wine and great conversation.

We capped off the evening with a virtual toast to our friend @jaynie in South Africa.
