This morning I wake up to an unusual noise that I haven't heard yet........ The tinkling of rain on my new tin roof.
It's been a fair while since we have had rain here at my place and I live right on the coast on the East of Australia. We haven't had any decent rain since March this year.
Now that may seem slightly bad, but many places inland in Australia have not seen any decent rain for 6 years!!! That's right over 6 years. They have no feed for their cattle and sheep and cannot grow any crops to produce this feed.
You may have heard of the #HayRunners initiative that #TeamAustralia are running through Steem over the next few months to get some money to purchase some feed for our farmers who are doing it tough.
The way it works is we pay for a truck and fuel to get donated feed to the farmers and this cost $2000 per truck through the Burrumbottock Hayrunners.
Now I know some people out there might say 'I can't support this as I can't support the killing of animals or the meat industry'. I understand that wholeheartedly, however, I think it is now more about supporting the mental wellbeing of the farmers doing it tough. The rates of suicide throughout the farming community is well above what is normal, particularly by those that have had to shoot their suffering livestock and about to lose their farms.
