In Slovenia, beekeeping is a very important part of sustainable agriculture and it's no coincidence that at the initiative of the Slovenian Beekeepers' Association in 2017, the United Nations proposed May 20 for World Bee Day.
Ban Ki Moon, the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations:
"The greatest contribution of bees to safe food is the pollination of almost three quarters of all plants, with which we produce 90% of the world's food. One third of the world's food production depends on bees, or one in three tablespoons of food depends on pollination. Irresponsible handling of bees can lead to disaster and famine. Ending hunger is everyone's responsibility."
