This week, we have an Early Adopter, another Lady π @shanibeer ! The Sensible Aunty...
I'd call her an OG but you never want a Sensible Aunty to get mad and go OG on you, so I won't! πΉπΉπΉ
Let's get right to the main course!
1/ When and how did you find out about Steem/HIVE and what prompted you to start and continue posting?
Iβd been involved in lots of discussions about blockchain technology β how it could help musicians and other creatives Then someone in my network posted on Facebook that he was joining Steem. It seemed the perfect opportunity, although I didnβt get here until July 2017. I enjoyed learning about crypto and its potential, meeting other people (I went to SteemFest3), starting to build my account.
2/ How did you find out about SPINVEST and what appealed to you to make you sign up?
The original post turned up in my feed and I was caught by it immediately β it chimed with so many ideas I had myself. I thought it was a great opportunity for regular savers and investors to start to build their wealth and they could do it through their earnings on Steem and Hive β there was no need to risk fiat or family money. I loved the idea of the investment club and the opportunity to learn more about investing. Iβm constantly impressed by the ingenuity of members to create more wealth for SPInvest through gaming, curating, buying and selling and so on.
3/ How long ago and what first got you interested in precious metals, or Crypto, or both? (your choice)
Crypto was through joining Steem β I had heard of Bitcoin, but owning crypto was not part of my experience. I would have started buying much sooner than I did, but I didnβt know how to do it. A post by @phoenixwren explained how to sell your Steem, so I reversed that process. For romantic reasons, I went fiat -> Bitcoin -> Steem the first time.
4/ In your own mind. What type of INVESTOR would you class yourself as if you could only pick one type and why? (crypto, physical, or w/e you like)
I am a pluralist investor. I have a planned investment portfolio, designed to meet a range of needs and take advantage of tax incentives. This includes a shares portfolio, some physical assets and crypto.
5/ Do you plan your precious metal (or Crypto) buys with goals in mind or do you go with the flow and stack here and there?
I have goals. I review them regularly. I rarely make impulse purchases. Iβm your sensible auntie π.
6/ Being an 'OG' member and watching SPINVEST from the beginning, (or even a Johnny-come-lately) where do you think we are headed? Can we get any better or have we peaked?
I think we have hardly started. I was in two minds about capping the fund but in retrospect I think it was the right decision. It has allowed SPInvest to mature and move into the next stage where investors are getting an income: that is a fabulous place to be. It means that anyone with a few pennies can start to build for their future.
As Hive grows, I would like to see SPInvest set up other funds for different purposes. Maybe something like the Royalty token that grandparents can buy as an investment for each grandchild β slow and steady over eighteen years. Or maybe a Fast and Furious fund β higher risk and return; or a Business Investment fund which raises money to invest in new initiatives, apps, communities, projects and enterprises on Hive. There is also the credit union savings and loans model β we could set up a fund for that.
7/ If you could only stack 1 coin, bar or round. Which coin/series/bar would you pick and why? Likewise, what Crypto Investment would you home in on?
Beyond Hive and all its opportunities? Bitcoin.
8/ On a scale of 1-10 scoring yourself on stackitis stress levels. What would be your highest level ever raised, what were your symptoms and how did you overcome it? PMs, Cryptos or both.
Blimey. Iβm your slow and steady investor, I put aside a set amount each month. I intend to get rich slowly, enjoy myself and do any good I can on the way. It has been different at work: on one occasion, I raised about $500k in a couple of days or faced making thirty people, nearly all of them with families, redundant. I did have to have a sit down and a cup of tea after that.
9/ Scenario β You are in a well known, legit Crypto Exchange, and see something unbelievable, let's just say you see BitCoin for like $1500, and you have a large amount of one of their trading pairs available. Suppose $15,000 in LTC. Do you buy as much BTC as possible? Do you tell anyone as quickly as possible or do you try and raise more cash? Think of a Flash-Crash scenario.
Iβd phone a friend π
10/ Whatβs your favorite food ever? Make it more interesting if you wish, favorite food/drink combos? For example, McD's Burger, Fries, Coke? Lol
What would you like to cook for me? π
BONUS Materials! I had a nice little DM with this fine lady, it was very conversational so I'll just kind of give it here in my own words. It's not perfect, but basically sums up this short form and I did get a good mental picture of @shanibeer's personality.
We talked about the number 8 response. She's in a management position, responsible for balancing the finances. Had to gather up Half a Million (listed it in U$D) in short order, I'm assuming some of that was cost cutting and mostly new money? But she CARES about the workers, to wit:
on one occasion, I raised about $500k in a couple of days or faced making thirty people, nearly all of them with families, redundant. I did have to have a sit down and a cup of tea after that.
This strikes a chord with me, my own industry was open during the Covid lockdown phase, and we kept up on existing orders. But then everyone else slowed down and I was deemed "redundant" π€£π€£π€£ I've enjoyed my vacation and actually thrived. People like Shani in management is a rare thing, I appreciate that. We also talked about a lay-off and she would have been the one telling these fine folks "We have to let you go on furlough" or Worse... I perceived that she really cares about her people. πππ
