Sunny Days! Starting To Get Ready
...It's closer to actually planting outside!
these days, each year, are when I am at my most excited! Sun's coming out longer each day... the days are warming. And it is time to start setting up the garden pots and layout for the coming season.
I am adding more plants this year, and so, I need to rearrange things to get more space! Last year, this stepped herb shelf was inside my fenced garden. this year, I have moved it to outside the fence, in order to free up space for more vegetable Fabric Grown Bag Containers.Above: Last year, inside the fenced area. Also note, the large wood box with smaller wood box next to it.
Below: Large wood box moved near the Trellis as this will be for cucumber. Peas moved to this sunset side, to allow plants needing more light on the other sunrise side. Small wood box is gone, now outside the fence with the herb shelf.
Above: Herb Shelf. I'll succession plant a two types of Butter Crunch Lettuce: Head and Leaf, two types of Arugula: Slow Bolt and Mild, Two types of Red Romaine Lettuce: Red Leaf and Super Romaine, green romaine. Also Greek and Italian Oregano, Greek Dwarf, Dark Basil, and Sweet Basil, thyme, Rosemary, 2 Spinaches, and more!

Later this week, I will actually begin to put soil and compost in the herb pots and start the first planting of Lettuce and Arugula. I usually have 3 pots set aside for each type, so I can plant one, grow one, and harvest some mature in one. that's the Succession planting. ince the last of one pot is harvest, its time to replant that pot, and start harvesting the next one.
I suspect this Friday or so, I will put my onion into pots, as well.
Looking ahead, there's plenty to get accomplished this week alone! He's a short list of some important tasks:
- Plant the 1st lettuce, Arugula, and spinach containers.
- Transplant Onion and Chives.
- Start adding soil and compost for the Grow Bags for Tomato, Pepper, Squash, and Cucumbers.
