Why do People..Take Drugs (WDP Series by Unshakeable #5)

We usually attribute losing control due to one’s dependence on a substance to weakness. But the real reasons why do people use drugs are far more complex.

Drugs relieve a person temporarily from an unwanted condition. That can be almost any unwanted condition.

Examples can be pain, stress, or even the fact that they feel bored.

In many cases, people start using drugs just to experiment or to rebel.

How Do Drugs Work?

Drugs are essentially poisons. The amount taken determines the effect. After the drug is in our system we can clearly see within minutes the reaction of our body.A small amount acts as a stimulant (speeds you up). A greater amount acts as a sedative (slows you down). The higher the amount you take the higher your chances are to fatally harm yourself. No matter the drug the outcomes are the same. The only that changes sometimes is the amount needed to achieve this kind of effects.

But many drugs have another liability: they directly affect the mind. They can distort the user’s perception of what is happening around. As a result, the person’s actions may be unexplainable, unreasonable, inappropriate and even devastating.

Certain people are at risk for substance abuse and for developing addiction disorders.

Whether or not you agree with the concept that addiction is a disease, that first moment of drug use is a choice that each person makes and can decide the route of his/her life.

Here is a list of the main causes why people take drugs:
  • Curiosity
  • Celebration
  • Media
  • Pleasure
  • Emotional Problems
  • Social Pressure
  • Emotional Instability
  • Influence

Many people have never experienced addiction of any sort. For these people it can be very hard to understand and grasp the logic behind drug abuse. Also, it’s really common for users to not fully know the effects of drug addiction.

Here is another list of the effects drugs offer:
  • Injuries
  • Health Problems
  • Effects On The Brain
  • Behavioral Problems
  • Birth Defects

I would like to end this post with a really short message.

I am sure that many of you out there have had an experience with drug addiction either personally or by having somebody close to you addicted to some kind of drug. I know sometimes life can be really hard and even make you feel like you are at the edge of giving up. Nevertheless, we shall not quit. Obstacles come to our way only to make us stronger and that’s the way you should approach life. I truly believe the difficulties our Lord puts us in front of are as tough as we can handle.

Thank you so much for your time. I wish you like the post-series so far and you find yourselves learning new things each day.

A post in memory of all of those that suffer or have suffered previously in their life from drug addiction.

The end
