My taste changed. For some weeks I did miss a certain "taste sensation", like my kid called it, by now I do not care anylonger.
This morning I had breakfast for the first time since long.
What did I eat? Beschuit! It is typical Dutch and yes we Dutch people still eat it after all these years. It is not expensive and you can save it longer as bread. Once it was ment to be for shipmen. For sure it did not look the way it looks now. It was dry and hard.
Beschuit is actually a roud bread. It is once baked, after that it is cut in 13 slices and baked for a second time.
You can eat it with: cheese, brown sugar, strawberries, "muisjes" (after a baby is born), marmelade and.... chocolate sprinkles!
No, not the ones you buy for your cake, those tiny, tasteless ones, but the kind we have and eat with our bread.
By the way: You can eat beschuit with yogurt or add some hot milk to it.
Already as I little kid I loved it.
Once I made my mother's breakfast, served it to her at bed (more a must, she ordered it).
I made "beschuit with hagelslag" (hagelslag = chocolate sprinkles). My mother was furious, she kept yelling at me, threw it through the bedroom and beat me up. According to her it was not the way how to eat "beschuit". It had to be brown sugar!
To be honest I still do not understand why. I gave her something I loved most of all.
It did infect me... I try to ignore it after all these years, but still find it hard to really enjoy eating it the way I like it most.
My second (and last) meal of today will be: Brussels sprouts.
It is winterfood and healthy. I will eat it with some applesauce (if toddlers/kids do not like the taste of their food it is common to give some applesauce with it).
I always loved eating Brussels sprouts. Our whole family did. They say people hate it or love it and no I do not find it smell.
The ones I will eat today I bought about 4 weeks ago. I saved them in the hall since I have no longer a fridge and freezer.
Fresh they taste way better as the frozen ones or what you can buy in a pot.
The water I did cook the Brussels sprouts in I save.
There are vitamins in it. I will not use it for us this time, but for the dogs. I will cook in it what I did cut off the Brussels sprouts (some edges and leaves. Vegetables and especially cabbage is hard to digest). I will add this to the dogfood. We do not waste anything.
As a baby and toddler I was severely malnourished. I still have problems if it comes to eating and digesting. I take certain vitamines and minerals, also because I take prednisone.
