Robot Sales Expected To Jump 300 Percent Over Next Decade

According to a recent projection by ABI Research, it is estimated that the U.S. market will see nearly a 300 percent jump in robot sales over the next decade.

Last year alone, roughly 40 percent more robots had been sold in the U.S., compared to the few years prior. Several studies have already come out and suggested that many jobs will be replaced by an increase in the prevalence of robots in the work force.

Some studies estimate that for every one robot that gets introduced, that six jobs might get eliminated.

Many industries have started to bring in robots in recent years: the medical industry, taxi industry, shipping, hospitality, automotive, and others.

The automotive industry alone is said to have accounted for roughly 70 percent of the industrial robot shipments over last year, making it one of the most demanding industries to implement robots to the workforce.

After the auto industry, the life sciences and pharmaceutical industry also shows strong growth as far as annual average increases in robot unit shipments. Followed by electronics, consumer/food goods, and other areas of industry.

There is growing debate and concern for robots being implemented in the workforce. Many are worried about the job competition and some, like Bill Gates, have even suggested taxing the robots as a sort of solution.

The concern that machines will replace humans isn't anything new, it's been a concern for many centuries.

But not everyone sees a dark future with the increase in prevalence of robots in the workforce. There are many who believe that the robots will complement workers and enhance our standard of living, contribute to a decrease in the cost of goods, they'll help to build wealth, and possibly provide other benefits.
