So it turns out that our lungs have a new function that we hadn't detected until now. The new findings suggest that our lungs are a huge factor in the production of platelets in the blood.
The study was conducted by the University of California.
Previously we thought that bone marrow was the sole proprietor of blood in our body, but this study that they performed on mice showed, most of the platelets that are circulating around in their bodies were in fact produced in the lungs.
What this means is that our lungs are far more complex than what we gave them credit for. It seems that the complexity to life persist!
