Why do even have different blood types?
We have different blood types because of our Immune System.
Our red blood cells have protein markers on the outside of their membranes, called Antigens.
They can recognize whether cells are foreign or belong to your own body.
Now when the Immune System detects Antigens that aren't familiar, it releases Antibodies to tag and fight the invaders.
There are two main types of Antigens - A and B. And these determine your blood type!
The different blood types
There are four main blood types - A, B, AB and O.
Depending on your blood type, you either have only A Antigens, only B Antigens, both, or neither.
When receiving life-saving blood transfusions, the blood type is very important.
Someone of type A receiving type B blood could result in the blood clotting, because the body doesn't recognize the blood's Antigens and treats them as a foreign invader.
Someone with blood type AB can receive both A- and B-blood, but someone with blood type O can only receive O-blood as well.

RH Positive or Negative?
Actually, there aren't only 4 blood types, there are 8.
Each blood type could either be RH+ or RH- (RH = Rhesus), which refers to a specific D-Antigen.
If your red blood cells have them, you're RH+ , if they don't, you're RH- .
So that's why there are 8 resulting blood types - A+, A-, B+, B-, AB+, Ab-, O+ and O- .
Connection between blood types and Personality / Race
There is no scientific evidence for theories that support a connection between blood types and personality traits, or blood types and different ethical backgrounds.
However, there are some interesting similarities and points to note.
- Blood Type A is most common among Caucasians.
- Blood Type B is most common among those with African descent, as well as some Asians.
- Blood Type O is most common among indigenous people, like Native Americans and Aborigines.
- Blood Type AB is most common among certain Asians, for example the Japanese and the Chinese.
