Hello guys, my quest to attend steemfest is becoming real. I have now managed the humongous amount of documents required for a visa, and shall be applying for one on the 10th of this month. I shall have to travel to the city, New Delhi to get it done, and should take me a week.
Have bought a ticket to Europe and will book the hotel within 24 hours. But have not bought a ticket to the event as yet as I had hoped to earn some SD's, but after 20 posts, I have only around 50 SD.
What I now need is the 144 SD to buy the ticket to the event and some extra cash for me while abroad. And since I could come up with nothing else,
I have Decided to Auction my Thangka Painting to the Highest Bidder!
And what is a thangka? You would ask. And a good source, the wikipaedia page on thangkas, says:
A thangka, variously spelt as tangka, thanka or tanka (Nepali pronunciation: [ˈt̪ʰaŋka]; Tibetan: ཐང་ཀ་; Nepal Bhasa: पौभा) is a Tibetan Buddhist painting on cotton, or silk appliqué, usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala.
Below I have included photo's of one of the two thangka's I own, and as it is now, adorning the walls of my house. If this auction goes well I shall auction off my other piece as well later.
I bought this thangka in 2014 at an exhibition by the Denzong Yargey Tshogpa, an organisation of the Bhutia's of Sikkim. The exhibition was held as a fundraiser to enable building a Thangka Painting school to boost their initiative a few years earlier, which had already trained 20 young kids into the fine art of thangka painting.
This thangka is fully hand made, is mounted on a brocade base with a bottom weight with metallic caps. I can guarantee it's authenticity as I have actually watched them paint away in their workshop, and have been meaning to do a post whenever I can take time off and drive over.
The Thangka painting is of the Guru Rimpoche, the saint who introduced Buddhism to Tibet. As the Nyingmapa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism is dominant in Sikkim, you will find more dieties here from this sect than other around here.
I paid a total of Indian Rupees 24,000 for it which works out to around 360.60 USD at today's exchange rate of 1 usd= 66.56 INR. But I can assure you that these were special prices for the exhibition and this thangka would cost a lot more in the open market.
So I put this Thangka to Auction with a starting price of 396 SD !
So 360.60 USD will be around 396 SD at the exchange of 0.91. And I would like you to bid for the prices you are willing to pay in the comments.
But I have the following conditions for any bidder:
1. I shall personally hand over the Thangka to the highest bidder when I reach Amsterdam.
2. The highest bidder can pay me The full amount to my wallet
3. Or pay me at least SD 144 for my tickets to my wallet, and the rest can be handed over to me at steemfest in fiat currency
4. If you want me to send it by post, I can, for which you will have to pay the whole amount to my wallet and also extra for postage (around 40 USD) but I will not be responsible for the couriers .
If the conditions above are good for you, please bid below in the comments. You may also ask questions in the comments, or on steemit.chat by sending a DM to @norbu
