Marketing Update: What a Great Idea/Proposal Looks Like

Hello Steemians! The marketing team would like to update you on how things are going with the crowdsourcing strategy.

We are very excited to see all of the ideas that have been proposed! The sheer volume clearly demonstrates that we require some organizational tools for handling this process, but that’s for another post.

Top Performers

Today we’ll highlight two promising proposals and how they exemplify what a quality proposal looks like.

Those two posts are:

  1. Growth Idea: From Crowdsourcing Growth Ideas to Crowdfunded Growth Projects - by @cryptoctopus
  2. Project: Power Up Your Neighborhood - Introducing Sandbox - by @hitheryon

These are two stellar examples of two separate phases of the protocol ( #growth-idea and #growth-project ) that we think everyone who’s interested in spearheading a marketing-related project can learn from.

These are Business Plans

These proposals also highlight a key issue we didn’t address in the protocol post because the goal of that post was to begin this journey and conversation, not to complete it. This issue is that what we are really pursuing with this approach is a new way of presenting a business plan to potential backers (whether that be the broader community or the Steemit Team). The desired return-on-value is the growth of Steem as a whole.

Leveraging The Platform As It Is

These users are presenting projects with unique value propositions and concrete benchmarks which can demonstrate meaningful progress before requiring any funding whatsoever. The @hitheryon project, in particular, is a fantastic example of how steemit.com can be leveraged as it exists today to develop projects that have the potential to add massive value to the Steem Blockchain without necessitating any changes whatsoever.

In short, one should think of the protocol as a map outlining how to begin a value relationship with the Steemit Community (including but not limited to Steemit Inc.). The goal of this process is to figure out what resources all parties have which can then be combined to create the most value for the Steem Blockchain at the lowest cost, thereby benefitting everyone in the Steem ecosystem.

Validation

As two of the top choices made by the crowd, these proposals demonstrate the wisdom of the crowd and confirm the potential of this crowdsourcing strategy. What @cryptoctopus points out is that this process could benefit from a more cohesive organizational infrastructure like DashCentral. While we are not backing such a proposal at this point, we are excited to see where that conversation goes and how that idea evolves over time.

The Bar is Set

As of now, we are actively engaged with @cryptoctopus and @hitheryon and are excited to see where these projects lead. We will, of course, stay on the look-out for promising ideas, and while we feel these projects have set the bar high, we look forward to those that push it even higher.
