 Reputation Reputation Reputation

What is the big deal? Well, reputation is one giant reasons for trust and "trust" is good a feeling. When you are trusting, you are letting go! You are entrusting! You are lifting some responsibility off your shoulders and keeping it in the bosom of others. Trust is important in maintaining relationships and so is "reputation"

Steemit is modeled to cater to these two essentials! The reputation of a steemian is left out there, to be determined by a social community of great minds from every nook and cranny and of varying upbringing, cultures and experience and many of whom aren't acquainted to each other. There is no consensus or prior discussion or planned effort to give you a reputation score! All each steemian has is a simple vote.

Your reputation on steemit can easily be defined as "a measure of your good behavior". If an entire community sees you as trustworthy and noble, courtesy of their random daily willingly exerted vote, then who are we to say you aren't?

Plus, the steem blockchain is bare! There are many steem tools you can use to check activities of steemians  and a very popular one is the steem blockchain explorer itself! www.steemd.com/@username allows you to check out the daily activities of any steemian. You don't need to log in!

The steem wallet and the transactions carried out on there are pretty bare as well. So if a steemian comes out saying; "i invested 50k steem a week ago and it is missing", it is easy to verify and trace, to see if this steemian is a wolf in sheep's clothing or not.

There are other measures in place on steemit to keep our behaviors in check and the authenticity and validity of these measurements is at a high because, decisions as to our reputation and behavior, is left in the hands of myriads of random great minds who are allowed to use their votes how they wish.

Bots can be so algorithmic and flawed sometimes, in their decisions regarding a steemian's reputation but there are also measures to keep that in check as steemians can come in, apply their votes to reverse the error and in some cases, like in the case of steem cleaners, an actual meeting can take place to repair matters.

You basically won and earned your "reputation" here on steemit and your reputation is a tangible reflection of how you have behaved! So be proud of it!

Even a whale on steemit, with all his power and influence can have a reputation score of (-4)

Reputation and Trust On Facebook And Other Social Media Giants.

On Facebook for instance, not much value is attached to reputation! There is practically no practical way of curbing behavior. These giants determine everything about who you are and can suspend your account at will, leaving you at the mercy of a few plea-emails, that may never get answered.

What i am saying is, the actual parameters used in measuring one's reputation aren't public on Facebook etc as these platforms are centralized, with power lying in the hands of a few.

You have no clue what Mark Zuckerberg thinks about your Facebook account and you can't find out.

A LIKE on Facebook may not be a true reflection of what your reputation is. In most, cases the "like" decision is left in the hands of friends and family, who are likeliest to be your advocates.

Too, there is no real conscious decision involved in a like. There is no real incentive when using it and this can be tainted by many factors. "SCROLL, SCROLL, SCROLL.......like!" You don't really lose or gain!

On steemit, your reputation could be at stake and you are very well aware; thus, you look before you leap as everything is bare and can be called upon much later.

Too, there is an incentive not to use your vote mindlessly. A vote on steemit is weighty and you have 40 in a day at 100 percent, thus, you don't just waste it. Note also, that there is incentive to upvote on steemit posts for instance, in the form of curation rewards. You are practically predicting that the steemit post you are upvoting has the potential to reach the trending page, thus, you tend to upvote posts that you have determined to be valuable.

A World Is Where Everyone Is Well-Behaved?

Well, that will only truly happen in Paradise to come but there is glaring evidence that even now, when you add reputation and trust to the picture, people can learn to be live in peace and harmony and be well behaved.

Steemit happens everyday and is a real life case study on this issue!
