Steemit Photo Challenge #16 - Bye, Bye Miss American Pie

Photoblog by @runrudy

What better way to get through this crazy election than with a slice of good ole American pie.

This first image below is my entry for the Steemit photo food challenge.

Let me introduce you to one of San Diego's local gems, a Julian apple pie.

It has become our family tradition to pick up one of these pies every holiday season.

Julian is a small town, known for it's apple orchards and delicious apple pies. It is an hour long, scenic drive from San Diego.

There are several pie companies in Julian. We visited the Julian Pie Company that has been around since 1984.

This is the second location for the Julian Pie Company. The original location is not much further down the road into Julian. We prefer this one because it is less crowded and has more parking.

The building has a charming feel to it. The front window decorated with pies is a nice touch.

There is even a warning sign on the entry door.

They have become a pretty big operation. They distribute all across San Diego county. We could have easily just picked up one of these pies at our neighborhood grocery store. Yet, getting it fresh and the mini road trip there is well worth the effort.

There are plenty of selections to choose and satisfy.

We went with the Caramel Apple Dutch.

The hardest part is having to wait and drive all the way back home with the pie aroma filling up the car.

The moment of glory.

To complement the pie we picked up some Thrifty's French Vanilla ice cream.

It is nice to know that there are still some good traditions left you can count on.
