As soon as he accessed the Imperium, Mummius Silas changed his name to Mummius Dentatus, and everyone was baffled.
The people who had the longest memory could barely remember who was that "Dentatus". All what was known was that he was a general and a two-times Consul who led the armies of Rome against the Dacians, beyond the Danube, and crushed them mercilessly.
Mummius explained it himself to the Senate :
"Romans, you have forgotten the name of Dentatus, but I have not. Nor have forgotten anyone from my tribe. As you know, I come from the sandy shores of Africa, like my family, like all my relatives. But that was not always my home. If you don't remember that, let me refresh your memories.
We come from the lush banks of the Danube. We are Romans now, but we were not all the time, and at that time i'm speaking of being called Roman was for us an insult. When you tried to steal the land of the Dacians, we fought alongside them. When you won against them, we were next. We fought, and lost, and in retribution, this man, Dentatus, your general, enslaved us and deported us to the other side of the world, on the other side of what you call Our Sea.
There, far away from the wet marshlands and the fertile grounds of our ancestors, our people started diying. That was the plan all along. We cried and we died. We complained and we died. We ground our teeth and we died. Until we stopped diyng. After a few generations, our bodies and our minds became more suited to this new weather, the new kind of food, the relentless sun, the elements of the desert. We grew different, we grew stronger. Our parents were damning Dentatus to the Seven Hells. My generation learned to despise our parents and to worship Dentatus.
Dentatus had tried to wipe us out. He almost succeeded, but in the end, he saved my tribe. In the fertile and joyous fields of Dacia, we were weak, we were nonchalant, we were ripe for the taking. In the desert, we become strong, determined and clever.
Soon, you started recruiting our men among your armies. Soon, our men become your officers. Now, these officers have become your masters.
That's why I proudly take the name of Dentatus, who gave the greatest gift to my people. That's why you are going to die."
It is said that only a handful of Senators escaped the pandemonium which took over the Senate when the guards of Mummius Dentatus entered to butcher them.
