I’m back after a wee bit of an absence. The weather is still wild here in the San Luis Valley. Windy, as usual but signs of Spring. There are so many intriguing
places to explore around here. I luckily have some guides to the more mysterious or secretive places, but in the meantime I just set out on my own.
Well, almost on my own. Usually our border collie Farley accompanies me.
These images are from an early morning hike up a ridge I call “fin” or “dike” mountain (due to the unusual rock formations ). I made it to the top. On the return, I took a moment to rest and looked around and saw these amazing rocks.
It is a bit tempting to think they may be picto graphs, but I doubt it for a number of reasons. This area does happen to be littered with petro glyphs as it was a major
base for Ute and Navajo tribes. These markings, however, go clear around or seemingly through the rocks.
Another mystery to talk to my geology friend about.
I am most grateful I did not run into any rattlesnakes, which also are in abundance.
