Ghost in the Shell: An honest review

Well it was cool.

It's a movie full of action sequences, incredible production work, top-notch cinematography and an incredible team of talented humans. It was carefully crafted to be impressive on the eyes . But that's it , it has no redeeming value . All the qualities of the Ghost In the Shell from (1995) : analysis of the human identity, the craving to feel connected (not to someone specific, but to humanity as a whole) were lost in translation.

It started with a TON OF POTENTIAL,

and slowly started to develop the history of Mayor, and the theme of her "ghost" and her identity . Which was nice if done correctly , but it didn't happened. Instead they got lost in trying to give meaning to Scarlet's character through a

BAD LOVE ARC

that made no sense as a logical conclusion of her history , the steps toward her love story with the "hacker" were rushed and clichéd to say the least.

The main theme of the movie is the "ghost" inside the "shell"; the spirit and the soul in simple terms. At the beginning of the film these themes were explored but that was it. I did not feel that it was in the screenwriter interest to show that theme properly.

And here it's were my review gets deep.

After the first 30 minutes of the film, it began to feel more and more dumbed down for the masses.

It was pretty clear to me at one point that the film was such an amazing way of making money through a work of art that it was too obvious of a cash grab. A lot of money went into amazing cinematography and special effects. (It reminds me a lot of a car-transforming blockbuster)
Honorable mentions for their amazing work to: Scarlet Johansson, WETA Workshops, Jess Hall (cinematography) , Clint Mansell & Lorne Bafell (Music) , your job was well done.

The fault in this movie lies in: lack of a solid script structure , the people behind the script were the same behind the transformers films, which is a shame because it really had a lot of potential to be Oscar-Worthy.

Summing it up, the film is decent, internationally made with the cooperation of American, Japanese and Chinese crews and companies, it became clear that it wasn't going to be a work of art to show the struggle of the human identity with it's surroundings , like it's Ghost in the shell (1995), but instead a more Hollywood image of the franchise.

Was it bad? No . Was it good? No . Was it decent? Yes, yes it was.
