Hi Steemians,
Today I would like to take you to one of my favourite type of Chinese food - Yum Cha. My western friends call them dim sims which is also correct but Yum Cha has more than dim sim which I will show you today. My friends and I love going to Yum Cha because not only they allow us to sit for long and let us enjoy our catch ups but also we can have all sorts of food as they come in small serves, normally in 3 to 4 pieces. We decided to go to the King Dynasty as it has plenty of room for our prams as well as decent food.
Normally I would share the menu first but at yum cha, the food gets delivered/pushed around in these carts below. The lady will call out what she has in her trolley and you ask for the food while she passes your table. In some Asian countries, they have stopped these carts and changed it to a ‘made to order’ where you are given a piece of paper, select what you want and they steam the food for you. The food can come in various ways - in the bamboo holders like pictured, plates or bowls depending on the type of food ordered.
The below are some of the food we ordered from the trolleys. We order some siu mai (pork dumplings), various steamed rice paper rolls, taro pork fried dim sim, steamed pork chops, har gaw (pork dumplings) and chicken feet (many people won’t touch we love it!)
The restaurant is normally busy during lunch and especially weekends there is always a line. It’s pretty noisy but I guess that's the fun of it when people are having a good time and enjoy yummy food. The food here is pretty reasonable but the only downside is the price is pretty expensive, in fact, one of the higher ends due to its location. Chinatown would be a little bit cheaper with a wider variety of food but if you want something in the suburbs, this is a great place to have yum cha to catch up with friends.
