Air Force Launches Bug Bounty For Hackers From Around The World

Next month the Air Force is looking to launch a bug bounty program that will include several of its public-facing websites and what they want is for hackers to try and seek out their vulnerabilities and if they do, they will be able to exchange them for cash rewards.

What the program does is it effectively rewards outsiders for successfully hacking private networks. For their efforts in contributing to finding and also reporting on weaknesses related to that organizations' cybersecurity. Previous bug bounty programs have already paid out tens of thousands of dollars in bounties.

The first effort of trying to run a similar program came last April when the government launched its Hack The Pentagon program which has now been expanded and includes websites associated with the Army.

Hack The Program had the objective of trying to identify security vulnerabilities and to resolve them through crowdsourcing. It's been referred to as the first program of its kind that the federal government has launched.

The Air Force program that has recently been announced, is going to be the first to invite hackers from outside of the country to participate. The challenge is open to hackers from the UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, as well as from within the US. Military members are also encouraged to participate but they aren't allowed to earn the rewards.

For those who are interested in participating they can register starting on May 15th with HackerOne, they will be the ones administering the program.
