Autonomous Cars Coming From GM Sooner Than We Think

When we think about the market for autonomous vehicles, companies like Tesla, Waymo, and Apple might come to mind. But they aren't the only ones looking to compete in this market. Other companies that have long been established for many decades now are also planning to compete in the market with their own autonomous vehicles. They are companies like VW, Mercedes, BMW, and GM.

Just a couple of weeks ago, Tesla made headlines after it surpassed GM to officially become the most valuable carmarker in the country. But who knows how long that is going to last for.

GM chief executive officer, Mary Barra, told the public a few days ago that autonomous cars are going to be coming from GM sooner than the public thinks. And they say that they are making very strong progress in this field, especially with Cruise Automation which is the autonomous technology company that they acquired last year.

They have been running the company as a startup and they aren't only looking to develop the technology, but they are also looking into strategies for commercializing it too.

GM hasn't yet announced a date for when the public should expect their autonomous vehicles but they say that it is likely going to be a lot sooner than most people think. They have already been testing autonomous vehicles in a number of different areas like Arizona and San Francisco.

And the autonomy space isn't the only area they are looking to aggressively compete in, they are also heavily focused on the area of electrification.

GM also said recently that they are going to be the first ones who will profit from electric cars. When it comes to the consumers, they say that many people want to drive electric but they aren't willing to pay. And that is why they plan on being the first ones who can truly offer an affordable option to the people.

At the moment, they are leading the race when it comes to trying to reduce the cost of electric vehicles so that they can offer them for an affordable price to the public.

The company has plans to introduce at least 10 different models for electric vehicles by 2020. And their electric cars are going to serve as a platform for them to roll-out their all-electric autonomous vehicles later on.
