2. Prose, poetry, any form of fiction is accepted, as long as you tell me a story based on the prompt
3. Contest closes Midnight (GMT) on Tuesday Jan 1st (That gives you just over two weeks to enter - pointed out, I am a total idiot, and somehow put this as Tuesday 2nd)
4. Use #tellastorytome
5. One picture only please, additional images of text are fine, but I want you to tell me a story with words, so only one actual picture
6. Link back to this contest somewhere in your post. I would be really grateful if you also resteemed this contest but that's optional
7. No min length and aim for under 4,000 words, but if it goes a little over, don't worry
8. Post a link to your tale in the comments below
The Prompt
Your entry must be inspired by this prompt, I am looking to hear the story of....
A Civilised Apocalypse
We have all heard the stories of the world ending, from meteor strikes, zombies, viruses, aliens, that dominate fiction, and the post-apocalypse punk that so often comes with it. But what about real life. Various plagues have swept through the species, and more often than not, people have pulled together, the infected voluntarily quarantining themselves, the not yet so offering up their skills and services despite the risk, and those with the means, attempting to help in any way they can. Obviously that isn't how everyone behaves, and some people will always exploit a situation, but I often feel things set in some form of potentially civilisation ending event miss the natural instinct to preserve the species. I would like a story, set in the apocalypse, where people work together to try and overcome/live through what they are facing. Who or what you focus on is up to you, and please be as wilful as you like interpreting this, civilised is a term with plenty of wiggle room.
This is a very non-festive prompt, but runs over the whole season, for when you need a break from the mass of cheery people, and can think about something else. I know this is very broad, so I have included some entirely optional additional prompts you can work in as well if you so desire. Using them won't get extra points or anything, just hopefully some extra fun.
- A person from before the 'end of the world' and a person who has only seen the 'new' world
- Attempts to make a cake
- A physical fight
- Some form of monster
Don't forget to include a link in the comments!
