Namaste! Today I learned about jeans and why they are considered unprofessional? I came to know that jeans were invented for blue-collar workers. Khakis and other wearables were easily get scratched, dirty, wrinkled and no use after a 5hrs of physical work. Also, It takes a lot of money to get the casual clothes cleaned up and maintained daily.
Jeans was invented by Jacob W. Davis in partnership with Levi Strauss & Co. in 1871. It was designed to take a lot of stress without tearing apart. In terms of durability, jeans was highly superior than Khakis and other casual clothes. At that time, only those people bought the jeans who need to do a lot of physical work and needs durable clothing. One of the biggest advantage of wearing jeans was that it can be used for a couple of days without getting any hard scratches and patches.
Jeans is not the problem but the people who have worn them. According to the general rule, Professional dress consist of thin and soft clothing and people wearing it consider themselves having higher position and pay grade as compared to people wearing jeans. Professional dress gives a sense of superiority.
Well, We are in 21st century and these things doesn’t matter. As long as a person can do its job successfully, clothing does’t matter. But still there are places and jobs where dressing is crucial and must be taken into account.
