TIL: New Las Vegas "Golden Knights" Logo Looks A Lot Like A Few Things

The Las Vegas Golden Knights are the proud owners of the best logo in the history of the NHL since expansion (the original 6 will always be the best). The logo is strong - the colors are very "vegas" and the play on words "golden nights /knights" - is cute. People will buy their branded swag at the airport on the way home.

I was looking at the Milwaukee Bucks logo today preparing for the Raptors game tomorrow. I couldn't help but notice how strikingly similar the two are to each other. Not in the over the top sense - but the strong use of V shapes - rounded edges become pointy, etc. I found a very cool site along the way http://www.sportslogos.net/ they not only have logos but valuable information I was not able to find anywhere else. I found out the Bucks logo was designed by Doubleday and Cartwright - unveiled April 13, 2015.

The Knights logo as it turns out was produced by Adidas Creative Services and released November 22, 2016. There has been some controversy over it. Some say it resembles magneto and Boba Fett http://nesn.com/2016/11/vegas-golden-knights-new-logo-looks-a-lot-like-boba-fett-magneto/ . The Bucks example is more about the overall aesthetic.

The logo appears to have been a collaborative effort with the Golden Knights GM and the Adidas design group. It is unclear however if any of the employees in the room had worked for Doubleday and Cartwright at the time of the Milwaukee Bucks redesign. Its possible that they recruited someone with real world "team logo" design and the bucks design is fairly recent. Or maybe someone is paying homage?
