If you grew up in Australia in the late 70's or 80's you would have no doubt heard the classic surf tune "Echo Beach".With the iconic line "Echo Beach far away in time, it became the song for a generation of young surfers as they dreamed of exotic beach breaks in faraway lands.
Echo Beach, Far Away in Time:

Location:

Echo Beach as the saying goes is "Hard to Find, Hard to forget." Its only a short distance from the trendy Seminyak area of Bali, but there is many a twist and turn along the way.Bali roads rarely run straight, and due to a myriad of reasons, traffic jams are commonplace. The trip took us somewhere between 45 minutes and an hour as we weaved through the windy village roads, green expanse of rice fields, multiple stops for roadworks, took about a dozen wrong turns (even with Google Maps)until we finally made it.The first thing you will notice is the sand. Its a dark grey due to the volcanic nature and perhaps is not as pleasing on the eye as the sparkling white sand beaches most people dream of. But to be fairyou come here for the waves not the sand.

Echo Beach Club:

ECHO BEACH CLUB:

WAVES CRASHING RIGHT BY THE TABLES
Situated on the point at the end of the beach, one could easilly spend an afternoon at Echo Beach club. The waves crash on the rocks a few feet away from your table and you can watch the surfers revel in wave after perfect wave of delicious left-hand breaks. The waves don't peak and crash but even with some size gently roll as they pitch left.

Enjoying Echo Beach with my buddy
My surfing days are long behind me, but it was fulfilling enough to sit in the shade with a cold drink, and watch the passionate and the talented enjoy this surfing heaven from the Gods.
